Imam Khomeini Shattered the Myth That Islam Cannot Govern: Pakistan's Top Shia Cleric

The head of Pakistan's Shia Ulema Council has declared that Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, remains the defining symbol of Islamic awakening, presenting a successful model of religious governance that charted a path of dignity, independence, and steadfast resistance against global arrogance.

Hawzah News Agency- In a statement marking the 37th anniversary of Imam Khomeini's passing, Hojatoleslam Seyyed Sajid Ali Naqvi asserted that the iconic revolutionary leader not only liberated the Iranian nation from the grip of a corrupt and despotic monarchy but also served as a blazing torch in the darkness of the contemporary world, illuminating the road to freedom and self-respect for Muslim nations and the oppressed masses everywhere.

"Imam Khomeini was among the most preeminent scholarly and revolutionary figures of the Muslim world," the statement read. "Drawing on profound religious insight and active presence on the frontlines of struggle, he offered the world a real, living, and ideal image of Islam, showcasing a practical blueprint for governance rooted in divine values."

Naqvi stressed that the 37th anniversary arrives at a time when the enemies of Islam—particularly Zionism and the hegemonic powers—have exerted immense efforts to derail the Islamic Revolution. "They imagined that by assassinating its leaders who carried forward the Imam's path, they could halt its expansion and influence," he said. "But by divine grace, this Revolution continues its march with authority, dignity, and dynamism, its ideals alive and more inspiring than ever."

The senior Pakistani cleric highlighted the ethical and spiritual dimensions of Imam Khomeini's mission, noting that the Imam, inspired by the prophetic tradition, sought to awaken the latent talents, moral values, and hidden capacities within human beings. From the earliest days of his struggle to the final moments of his life, he remained a towering social and religious reformer on the battlefield of action.

"With his wise leadership and sublime divine objectives, Imam Khomeini guided the great Iranian nation toward dignity, self-reliance, and national self-confidence," Naqvi stated. "His life of relentless struggle conveys a powerful message: by strengthening self-belief, the will for transformation, and resistance against domination, nations can thwart the conspiracies of the arrogant powers and forge their own path to progress."

Naqvi further underscored that the greatness of Imam Khomeini's legacy extends far beyond the borders of Iran. At a time when few believed an independent movement could emerge and triumph outside the orbit of Eastern and Western blocs, the Islamic Revolution shattered those equations with its enduring slogan of "Neither East, Nor West," introducing a new paradigm of political, cultural, and religious independence that continues its successful trajectory.

"After the establishment of the Islamic system based on the Imam's thought, the propaganda and doubts claiming Islam's incapacity to govern were decisively invalidated," Naqvi emphasized. "By advancing the doctrine of Wilayat al-Faqih and forming an Islamic government, Imam Khomeini proved practically that Islam is not merely a set of devotional rituals, but a comprehensive system for administering every dimension of individual and collective life."

He stressed that the successful experience of the Islamic Republic demonstrates that Islam offers solutions for politics, economics, culture, social justice, and international relations, offering nations a manual for confronting oppression, colonialism, and injustice.

Concluding his message, Hojatoleslam Naqvi affirmed that the personality, thought, and heritage of Imam Khomeini continue to serve as a source of inspiration for the free nations of the world. "As time passes, the dimensions of his vision and movement become increasingly manifest. Today, the Muslim world, in its quest for dignity, unity, independence, and justice, needs the teachings and ideals of that great divine leader more than ever before," he declared.
